ILG Reaches Important Environmental Milestones
WOODLAND HILLS, Calif. — International Laser Group continues environmental stewardship and announced important environmental milestones.
“For almost 20 years, ILG has manufactured high-quality environmentally conscious products,” said Gary Michaels CEO of worldwide operations. “ILG was green before being green was cool and every year ILG has looked for more ways to help save the planet.”
In mid-2007, ILG partnered with a leading California recycling firm. The ILG Team commissioned consultants who spent months researching ways to properly dispose and recycle nearly 100 percent of ILG’s manufacturing scrap.
By the end of 2007, ILG had recycled approximately, 388 tons (776,000 lbs.) of manufacturing scrap. This ILG recycling initiative includes 428,000 lbs. of corrugated cardboard, 211,000 lbs. of paper test pages, 63,000 lbs. of aluminum, 50,000 lbs. of wooden pallets, 21,000 lbs. of plastics and toner, and 2,100 lbs. of electronics.
“388 tons is hard to comprehend but it equates to roughly 250 family sedans,” said Senior Vice President Joe Shulman. “With our advanced recycling programs, we should prevent more than 1 million pounds of manufacturing scrap from entering our landfills in 2008 and we will continue to research ways to help reduce our environmental impact. It is our commitment.”
In addition to their recycling efforts, ILG Packaging has been awarded several environmental certifications including the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) Fiber Sourcing Certification and Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Chain-of-Custody certifications.
Michaels said, “It’s our responsibility to minimize our impact on Mother Earth. Not only is it the right thing to do, but is it something we are passionate about. Our updated packaging will have these certifications and we will proudly display them on every box.”
