The value of having CompTIA offer the certification is that it can bring the same vendor-neutral, third-party perspective to what this industry really needs that they currently do for computer hardware (A+), networking (Network+), computer security (Security+), RFID (RFID+), and many others. Far from creating the certification in a bubble, CompTIA has enlisted cornerstone members for the certification to contribute to its creation. The cornerstone list reads like a who's who of the industry and includes:
The certification will require passing an exam at a VUE (www.vue.com) or Prometric (www.prometric.com) testing center, and that exam is slated for release in the first quarter of 2008. An exam writing workshop was held in June, with beta testing to occur after that. The cost and structure of the exam is expected to be the same as for all other CompTIA exams, but that could not be confirmed through CompTIA.
