Epson Wins Injunction Against Taiwanese CISS Maker

June 28, 2006

As a result of a petition filed by Epson this month, the Taichung District Court in Taiwan has issued an Execution Order to enforce a Preliminary Injunction Order (PIO) against U-Bar International. The PIO, which was issued after consideration of both parties' submissions, accepted Epson's claims that there was an urgent need for Epson to obtain a PIO against U-Bar because U-Bar's "Continuous Ink Supply Systems" (CISS) had infringed on Epson's ROC (Taiwan) Utility Model Patents.

Subject to the Execution Order, U-Bar can no longer directly or indirectly manufacture, import or sell the CISS for Epson printers. The same terms apply to modified Epson printers containing CISS.

As a global leader in imaging products, Epson devotes considerable time and resources to researching and developing innovative technologies for the benefit of its customers. Subsequent to the success in obtaining a PIO against U-Bar, the company said it will continue to vigorously protect its research and development achievements and related intellectual property rights against infringing companies.
