To better understand the changes, we first need to look at the differences between the Canon LBP-WX (HP 5Si/8000) and the Canon LBP-WX+ (HP 8100). The 5Si is a 24 ppm printer in the text mode. The 8000 incorporates a faster processor, which increased the print speed to a true 24 ppm in a network configuration. These two printers are the same basic print engines. The 8100 is a 32 ppm printer and is very similar in operation to the 5Si/8000. However, few of the parts are interchangeable. The same changes were made when the 8 ppm HP4 was modified to become the 12 ppm HP4+/5.
Just as the HP4 fuser will not fit into the HP4+/5, the 5Si/8000 fuser will not fit into the 8100. Photo 1 shows both fusers. They appear to be very similar, but less than 25% of the parts are the same. As you can see in Photo 1, the 8100 fuser on the right has only one electrical connection where the 5Si/8000 shown on the left has two plugs. This prevents accidental installation of the incorrect fuser.
